Alder Select Plantation Shutters have a clean grain pattern but should not be considered a “clear” grain.  They can contain an occational knot, but the knots are small, smooth, and not open.  On the other hand, Knotty Alder Plantation Shutters have a more rustic or "lodge" look with both clear and knotty grains.  The knots can be smooth or open.  Take a look at the pictures to the right to get an idea of what Knotty Alder Plantation Shutters look like.

Our Alder Select and Knotty Alder Plantation Shutters are made from the highest quality solid alder, sanded to a beautiful furniture grade finish, then carefully stained and topcoated with premium quality coatings.  Alder Plantation Shutters have 1-1/8 inch thick rails and stiles and use dowel joinery for solid construction.
