Below are all the measurements and details you need to know to figure out which mount and frame combination is best for your plantation shutters.  All backspace requirements given are EXACT, thus at least 1/4" additional clearance is highly recommended.

Inside Mounts for Plantation Shutters:

Inside Mount - Direct Mount option for Basswood Plantation Shutters

* Backspace Requirements:

For proper louver operation, if the plantation shutters are mounted flush with the wall, you need at least:

  • 2-13/16" of backspace for 4-1/2" louvers
  • 2-5/16" of backspace for 3-1/2" louvers
  • 1-13/16" of backspace for 2-1/2" louvers
  • 1-1/2" of backspace for 1-7/8" louvers

If needed, shutters can be mounted out approximately 3/8" for extra louver clearance.

Inside Mount - Z Frame option for Basswood Plantation Shutters

* Backspace Requirements:

For proper louver operation, you need at least:

  • 2-1/2" of backspace for 4-1/2" louvers
  • 2" of backspace for 3-1/2" louvers
  • 1-1/2" of backspace for 2-1/2" louvers
  • 1-3/16" of backspace for 1-7/8" louvers

Inside Mount - L Frame option for Basswood Plantation Shutters

* Backspace Requirements:

For proper louver operation, if the plantation shutters are mounted flush with the wall, you need at least:

  • 2-13/16" of backspace for 4-1/2" louvers
  • 2-5/16" of backspace for 3-1/2" louvers
  • 1-13/16" of backspace for 2-1/2" louvers
  • 1-1/2" of backspace for 1-7/8" louvers

For proper louver operation, if the plantation shutters are mounted flush with the wall, you need at least:

  • 2-13/16" of backspace for 4-1/2" louvers
  • 2-5/16" of backspace for 3-1/2" louvers
  • 1-13/16" of backspace for 2-1/2" louvers
  • 1-1/2" of backspace for 1-7/8" louvers

If needed, Hanging Strips can be mounted out approximately 1-1/16" for extra louver clearance.

Outside Mounts for Plantation Shutters:

Outside Mount - L Frame option for Basswood Plantation Shutters

* Backspace Requirements:

For proper louver operation, if the plantation shutters are mounted flush with the wall, you need at least:

  • 13/16" of backspace for 4-1/2" louvers
  • 5/16" of backspace for 3-1/2" louvers
  • 0" of backspace for 2-1/2" louvers.  These louvers come 3/16" short of mounting surface.
  • 0" of backspace for 1-7/8" louvers.  These louvers come 1/2" short of mounting surface.

Extended L Frames are available for extra clearance if needed.  Some extended L Frames can be provided at no cost.  Please contact us with questions.

Outside Mount - Hanging Strips option for Basswood Plantation Shutters

* Backspace Requirements:

For proper louver operation, if the plantation shutters are mounted flush with the wall, you need at least:

  • 1-5/8" of backspace for 4-1/2" louvers
  • 1-1/8" of backspace for 3-1/2" louvers
  • 5/8" of backspace for 2-1/2" louvers
  • 5/16" of backspace for 1-7/8" louvers
