Plantation shutters have always been one of the most gorgeous ways to dress French doors and other doors with glass inserts.
They are made to fit any door with a truly custom, craftsman look. No one would ever guess that you did them yourself!
Best of all, they do not swing, sway, or slap the door like other window coverings when the door is opened and shut.
Any door can be covered with plantation shutters. Even doors with lever type handles that extend into the glass area
can be done. No matter how tight, big, or little you think your door is, we can have plantation shutters custom made
to fit. They can be mounted directly to wood, metal, fiberglass, and many other types of doors. All we need is
a few measurements and we can have your doors fitted without difficulty. Even if your door has very little mounting
space, custom frames can be done.
Plantation shutters are usually mounted to French
doors using an Outside Mount L Frame. The frame is typically mounted outside the trim that goes around the inset windows. Not all French doors have
this trim. The frames are screwed directly into the door itself. If you have a metal door the screws self penetrate
with some pressure. Fiberglass doors may need to have pilot holes drilled for the screws with a small drill. Otherwise,
all mounting instructions are the same for the Outside Mount L Frame. Extended L Frames can be ordered if additional
louver clearance is necessary.
French Door Handle Cutouts
Most French doors with lever handles require French door cutouts.
This provides a highly custom look to your plantation shutters. It is simply a way of building the shutters around the
lever handles. The handles remain fully operative and the cutouts allow you to fit your hand over the handles.
Not all cutouts look like those pictured. The factory determines the best way to do the cutouts based upon the measurements
of your doors.
Sometimes it is also necessary to modify the L frame by notching out the back to fit
over obstructions. If you have any other obstructions, you will need to let us know so that we can modify the frame
Pricing for plantation shutters over French doors can be seen under “Surchargeable Options”
at our Custom Made Plantation Shutters Pricing page. Simply take your square footage price and add the surcharge shown for the appropriate plantation shutters.
Not all orders require a surcharge, such as orders that do not require French door cutouts. In this case, the order
is the same as if it were going in any normal window.
Ordering plantation shutters over French doors must be done over the phone. If your
door does not require a French door cutout or any other modifications, you can simply order a regular Outside Mount L Frame
